I cannot remember ever NOT wanting to be a writer. I fell in love with books
very early, and knew that someday I wanted to write them. Some of my favorite
books as a child were Snipp, Snapp, and Snurr and the Red Shoes (this one inspired
me to want to be a chimney sweep!), The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Mike Mulligan and
the Steam Shovel, and, later, Harriet the Spy, Little Women, Anne of Green Gables,
and From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.
I'm now all grown up, and living my dream! No, I'm not a chimney sweep, but I am
a writer. I write my books on a Toshiba laptop computer that sits on an old secretary
(a sort of desk) that once belonged to my husband's grandfather. I live near the
mountains in Utah with my husband, my five children, a very literary dog named Kipling,
an escape-artist cat named Houdini, and a stuck-up betta fish named Flame.
Besides writing, I love reading, doing yoga, hiking in the mountains, listening to good
music (especially when it's performed by my children), and playing with bubble wrap.
